PARISH UPDATE

posted Apr 26, 2018, 11:51 AM by Church Office   [ updated Apr 26, 2018, 11:52 AM ]

The following is an update regarding the status and upcoming events for Ss. Peter and Paul:

Finances:  We have a slightly positive cash flow for each month. ($200-$500/month)  All bills have been paid up to date and we are starting to add savings to our Building and Improvement Fund to cover any major expense such as new air conditioners, new furnace or putting green.

Parish Mission Trip:  We are on schedule to go on our first mission trip from Sunday, June 3- Friday, June 8, 2018.  We still have room for more students and adults.  All expenses, including travel and gas money will be covered by the parish.

Parish Council and Parish Finance Council:  The parish is looking for volunteers to serve on the Parish Council or the Finance Council.  Please let Fr. John know if you are interested.

New Carpet:  Originally, the plan was to replace the carpet in the church and in the offices.  However, after reviewing several quotes, it was determined by several vendors that the carpet did not need to be replaced.  Rather, it could be repaired and cleaned at a fraction of the cost of new carpet.  Therefore, we hope to have the carpet repaired by early May and then cleaned in the following couple of weeks.  More details on the exact schedule will be outlined in the bulletin.  Throughout the process of repairing and cleaning the carpet, there will not be any disruption to our weekend services.

Summer Social Events:  This summer, our parish will be celebrating its 150th year in existence.  We will be hosting the evening prayer service to kickoff Heritage Days on Tuesday, July 10th, at 7:00 PM.  We will also be having a parish celebration on Sunday, July 15th.  Details of this celebration are still being discussed by the events committee. We will still be having our parish picnic in August.  However, there will not be a community picnic in June. Vacation Bible School will take place in August 6th through 11th.   Fr. John will continue to golf on as many days as possible. Please contact him if you would like to join him as he travels the hills and valleys of our local courses.

AA Meetings:  Fr. John hosts AA meetings on Monday evenings from 8:30 to 9:30 P.M.  Anyone dealing with drug, alcohol, gambling, sex, shopping, eating or any other addiction are welcome to attend.  Also, if you have a loved one that suffers from any one of these or other addictions and you need assistance coping with them and their addiction, please come to the meetings.  By attending these meetings, you will gain valuable insight on how to interact with your loved one.   Please feel free to contact Fr. John if you have any questions.

Summer Series on the Catholic Church in today's society will be the focus of Fr. John's homilies/sermons during the summer.  Each week, he will discuss a part of  Church history and how we arrived at this place and how this helps us to better understand our responsibilities within our parish and in the Catholic Church.

Ordinary Time:  Although we will be in Ordinary time after celebrating Pentecost on May 20, I hope that this summer is anything but Ordinary!! I will do my best to continue to serve, teach, preach and minister to you, the good people of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.  My goal this summer is to lay the foundation for an exciting school year in the fall where we will continue our CCD, Adult Faith Formation, Men's Fellowship, a new Women's group, more youth activities, and more social events. One of my main goals is to continue to grow and develop our parish family.  Thanks you again for all your service and support and I look forward to a great summer, once the weather cooperates!!

As Always, Your Servant in Christ,

Fr. John
