PARISH COUNCIL VOTES FOR TWO UPCOMING CHANGES IN MASS TIMES AND MASS SCHEDULES

Please take the time to read the enclosed Parish Council Meeting Minutes from the August 21st meeting. In it, details of two major changes are presented. The Saturday evening Mass time, beginning October 1st, 2013, will be 4:00 p.m. year-round. There will not be a switch back to the 5:30 p.m. Mass time during the months of April through September 2014. Additionally, beginning January 5, 2014, there will be one Sunday Mass at 10:00 a.m. each weekend. This change will be in effect for one full year on a trial basis. Parishioners will have the choice to attend the 4:00 p.m. evening Mass on Saturdays or the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays effective January 5th. There are a number of reasons for the change to one Sunday Mass, namely, the attendance figures do not support three Masses. Cost savings will be immediate once the two-Mass weekend takes effect. Volunteers for all ministries have been over utilized due to a lack of volunteerism for various ministries (Altar Servers, Cantors, Lectors, and Eucharistic Ministers). These changes are expected to also build a stronger "sense of community" by allowing a larger group of parishioners to celebrate Mass together on Sundays. Statistics in our Diocese and in our parish have revealed the trend in declining Mass attendance. This change is a result of that decline and subsequent decline in annual contributions. We appreciate Parish Council's consideration of our financial, spiritual, and faith community needs.
