Fr. Kelly would like to introduce the Yarumal Missioners, the recipients of this year's Mission Co-Op visit. On June 8th and 9th, a representative from this organization will speak to our parish concerning their work in foreign countries. They wrote: "We are members of the Society of Apostolic life that was founded in Yarumal, Colombia in 1927. As members of Yarumal Missioners, we offer our lives for primary evangelization among those who do not yet know Jesus Christ with preference to the most poor. We work in remote areas with many challenges, but we are filled with love for Christ, the church, and the people we are sent to work with and for. The Yarumal Missioners include Missionary Priests, Consecrated Brothers, Associate Priests, and lay people who work together for the building up of the kingdom of God. The first response that we undertake is to form a missionary conscience in ourselves right from the time of our formation. This prepares us to develop the love of God that is to be extended to the people we are called and sent to serve.

We believe that the seed of faith is present in us as human beings and needs to be helped in order to grow up to maturity. For this we enter into the community to which we are assigned to work with an open mind i.e. we learn the peoples’ language, culture, tradition, values and way of living. We allow the peoples’ lives to help us carry out our missionary mandate.

In these communities we live, share and help the people to find beauty in belonging to a Christian family that lives with the love of Christ within us. Our approach is about the simplicity of life, meeting peoples’ basic needs with a big smile and great heart. We also respond to the social and developmental needs of the community with careful reflection and in collaboration with the community.

Our Yarumal Missioners are present in different continents. We work in: America - Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Panama, United States of America (New York); Africa - Kenya, Angola, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, and Cameroon; Asia - Cambodia, Philippines and Thailand; and in Europe - Belgium. Under normal circumstances, our process of evangelization starts by the insertion of the missionaries into the new community which they are sent to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. This involves learning the peoples’ language, culture, values and traditions etc. This equips the missionaries with the confidence of understanding the community well. This is then followed by the sharing of the Word of God. During this process the response to

human and social development takes place in participation and collaboration with local leaders, giving priority to the most needy."

Please prayerfully consider donating toward the works of the Yarumal Missioners. More information and special envelopes will be distributed in upcoming bulletins. Thank you!
