MID-STATE LITERACY COUNCIL SEEKING VOLUNTEERS TO HELP ADULTS IN THE PHILIPSBURG AREA TO IMPROVE BASIC SKILLS

posted Jan 16, 2015, 9:49 AM by Church Office   [ updated Jan 16, 2015, 9:49 AM ]

Volunteer opportunities exist for those who would like to be matched with adult learners who want to improve their basic reading, writing, and math skills. These skills are essential for finding a job, understanding healthcare information, communicating with family and friends, and staying in touch with events in the community. The Mid-State Literacy Council, located in State College, needs volunteer tutors and would like to invite all members of our congregation to consider this rewarding and important role. Tutors are provided with training and materials. They commit to meet once a week for two hours with students in a public location in Philipsburg. If interested, or to learn more, please call Mary O’Neill at 814-238-1809.
