posted Feb 16, 2015, 12:16 PM by Church Office   [ updated Feb 16, 2015, 12:16 PM ]

This Wednesday, February 18th, is Ash Wednesday when the Church begins its 40-day journey with the annual discipline of fast and abstinence. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. ABSTINENCE refers to not eating meat at all during the day. All those who have reached their 14th birthday are obliged to ABSTAIN. FASTING refers to eating only one full meal, with two small meals, and no eating between meals for the day. The Church directs the holy FAST to all those 18 years of age and older until their 60th birthday. ASH WEDNESDAY and GOOD FRIDAY are days of FAST and ABSTINENCE for the faithful.
