The Altar and Rosary Society announced the winner of their First Annual Faith Life Scholarship during the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday, June 8th. Emily McCafferty, a 2013 graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola Senior High School, was named the winner for her years of dedicated service to the parish, her academic achievements, and active faith life. An altar server since 2005 and a cantor since 2006, Emily also serves as the Youth Representative on Parish Council and is active in several community and school-based programs. Two days prior, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown held its annual recognition dinner on June 6, 2013 where Emily was named a recipient of the Matthew 25 Youth Humanitarian Award. Jerry Craven, Director of Religious Education, nominated Emily for her efforts to help the sick and the underprivileged as well as her continued service to the church in many capacities. Bishop Mark was the guest speaker at the event which honored both adults and youth throughout the Diocese. Emily is entering St. Francis University in the fall to pursue her BSN in Nursing.
